Perhaps one of the most annoying (and in my mind useless…) security features is hiding passwords under asterisks. If you have a password you would like to read in a dialog box or on a web site. Asterisk Key and Kernel Password Unmask are your friends. They are both remarkably simple pieces of software thatĀ one thing and does it well. Asterisk Key is great for recovering passwords fromĀ Excel, Firefox and Kernel is great at reading passwords in Windows Programs like Outlook. Basically with these programs, if you can see the ****** you can convert it. Everyone needs these tools at some point so don’t hesitate, they are Free and they work.
To use Asterisk Key it you only need to run the program while your dialog box is open with the infernal ******** displayed and Asterisk Key will convert it for you.
You can download the free version of Asterisk Key right here. https://www.lostpassword.com/asterisk.htm
Kernel Password Unmask takes an even simpler approach it simply removes the asterisks so you can read the password directly.
Kernel Password Unmask is located here. https://www.nucleustechnologies.com/Unmask-Password-Show-Reveal-Stars.html
Note: You should save Kernel to your programs folder and make a short cut manually by right clicking on it and putting it in your start menu so you won’t have to root around to find it later.
