Here is a quick tutorial that will demonstrate how to use their online editor to crop and re-size an image to a particular size and dimensions suitable to be a banner on this site. If you would like to follow along with me please click on the image to the right and download it to your computer, I’m putting mine in a folder called Tutorial on my A drive but you can put it anywhere you like.

Next, navigate to pixlr.com web site here and follow my simple step by step instructions below. Please note: you are under no obligation to use my particular image or dimensions etc. these are provided simple to illustrate the procedure required what you crop and how you size it is ultimately up to you. With one important caveat, DO NOT RE-SIZE IMAGES UP.  You can always scale an image down but scaling an image larger than it actually is will only make it look worse.

 

 

 

 

Step One: Go to Pixlr.com and select the Advanced Tab

Step Two: Select Open Image from Computer

Step Three: Browse to your images directory and select it

Step Four: Select the Crop Tool in the upper right of the Tools Menu

Step Five: Select the Aspect Ratio Constraint for the Crop Tool

Select the Aspect Ratio you want: (In this case 960 x 447 pixels)

Step Six: Select crop tool in the upper left and use it to circumscribe the area you want to crop on the image.

Step Seven: Click on Image in the tool menu and apply the crop

Your Image should like something like this now if your following along:

Step Eight: Select Image Size from the Drop Down Menu

Select the size ratio you want (In this case 960 x 447) and REMEMBER DO NOT SCALE THE IMAGE UP IN SIZE, you will not be happy with the results.

Congratulations your image is now cropped and resized!

Step Nine: Save it and call it a day.

Your final image should look something like this:
